What is Lolita Fashion?
Lolita fashion is a style that originated in Harajuku, Japan. Inspired by historical clothing from europe, such as 18th century French Rococo and 19th century English Victorian.
It is often referred to internationally as EGL, or Elegant Gothic Lolita, to avoid confusion with the novel, "Lolita" and its negative associations.
No one's sure how the style got the name, but it was likely due to an early missapropriation of the term, conflating it with childish, girly aesthetics.

About my Wardrobe
I breifly experimented with Lolita fashion in my teen years, but I only ever had a few offbrand dresses bought from Sai Sai in London. (All of which, now long gone!)
I only seriously got into the fashion in my thirties, after I joined a local group. No exageration, this literally changed my life! I am so grateful for the community that this subculture provides, which is so strong and full of creative, interesting people.
Dressing up and going to themed meet-ups is so much fun, and I've managed to make so many good friends! 🙏
I built most of my wardrobe from second-hand sales. Vinted, my beloved, is my first source for anything. But Closet Child and Lace Market haven also played their part. A lot of my favorite staples were also purchased directly from friends.❤︎
My favourite brands are Metamorphose, Angelic Pretty, Baby The Stars Shine Bright, Bodyline and Innocent World.
I'm outside the standard measurement for many brands, so I tend to only go JSKs with full shirring, or plus-size options. I'm weak to Angelic Pretty prints though, so my long-suffering mother has also altered some older dresses for me.

In Lolita fashion, a styled outfit is known as a coordinate, or coord. This is a gallery of my looks, showcasing key pieces from my collection.
Bodyline's 'Stripe Balloon Bears' OP coorded with a basic yellow cardigan, lace socks and my favourite chunky 'Barbie' Bershka trainers. Worn on a casual day out with family. I got this OP from a swap meet for super cheap and I love it, especially on hot summer days. Its great quality, even better than some big brand dresses!
Angelic Pretty's 'Rose Salon' JSK. I bought both this dress and a large usakumya backpack from one of my best friends, and hometown lolita. Coorded with my favourite chunky 'Barbie' Bershka trainers. Worn to a bouquet-making picnic in June 2026
Metamorphose's 'Capsule Toy' JSK worn to see Hunger Games on Stage in June 2026. Coorded with a Angelic Pretty 'Milky Bear'necklace and a Lazybee rain jacket.
Metamorphose's 'Memories Garden' purple JSK worn to meets in July and November 2024.
Innocent World's 'Midnight Merry-Go-Round' worn to a picnic meet in May 2024. Coorded with R.R. Memorandum socks and a black randoseru
This Angelic Pretty 'Wonder Toy' JSK is one of my all-time favourite dresses, bought from a comm member. Worn to Hyper Japan in July 2023, with a upcycled blue summer top, and a teddy bear meet in February 2024.
I won Innocent World's 'Cherub Angel Candlestick Church choir JSK' in a raffle shortly after my meet, at big halloween tea party. I felt soooo grateful to win my first brand item. Unfortunately, it was always a bit tight on me, and as I prefer not to wear items with crosses, I ultimately decided to let it go. I paired it with the 'Steampunk Cape' by Jawbreaker.
My first ever coord at my first meet in 2022. The dress was the 'Hugme Cabbage Patch' POS cheapie offbrand. I actually really liked it, but its too short for me. I would love to upcycle it one day, if I could get hold of more of the fabric. The coat was the 'Embroidered Velveteen' by Metamorphose, and was borrowed just for the photo. I loved how it looked, but it was too small for me.
My favourite brand is Lutra Jump I've been wearing this overdress a lot, this summer. (2026) It goes nicely over a T-shirt and shorts. I accessorise using my Angelic Pretty Milky Bear Necklace
This Bunny Sweet Lace Tank Dress by Lutra Jump is perfect for sweet-themed meetups and picnics. I styled it with my chunky red Lamodashoes and usakumya backpack, for a more Lolita look.
